In particular, air pollution including acid deposition is serious issues that need to be resolved urgently from the viewpoints of improving public health and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to elucidate the current situation including impacts of acid deposition in the East Asian region and to organize a regional cooperative initiative on the acid deposition issues, “Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET)” was established in April 1998 under the initiative of Japan. The EANET has been operational on a regular basis since January 2001 after two and half years preparatory phase activities. Currently, 13 countries in the East Asian region are participating in the EANET.

The Acid Deposition and Oxidant Research Center (ADORC) was established in Niigata, Japan in April 1998 as a branch office of the Japan Environmental Sanitation Center (JESC) to play a pivotal role as the Network Center and Japan’s National Center for the Network. ADORC was founded with the support from Niigata Prefecture, City of Niigata, manufacturing companies, and non-profit organizations (NPOs) under the leadership of the Environment Agency (which has become Ministry of the Environment) of Japan.

ADORC was renamed Asia Center for Air Pollution Research (ACAP) in June 2010. Striving to improve air quality and solve air pollution problems, ACAP continuously plays a key role in monitoring and researching air pollution including acid deposition in East Asia as the Network Center for the EANET and National Center of Japan. In cooperation with international organizations, governments, local governments, and research institutions, ACAP conducts research activities, international conferences, training, etc. as well as dissemination of the data.

ACAP’s Partnerships

<img decoding="async" src="https://www.acap.asia/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/acap_partnerships.png" alt=" width=" 960="" height="720" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-965" />

Overview Name Asia Center for Air Pollution Research, Japan Environmental Sanitation Center Acronym ACAP Estab […]

Overview

Name

Asia Center for Air Pollution Research, Japan Environmental Sanitation Center

Acronym

ACAP

Establishment

April 1998

No. of employees

30 (as of 1 April 2019)

Location

1182 Sowa Nishi-ku, Niigata-shi, 950-2144, Japan

TEL: +81-25-263-0550、FAX: +81-25-263-0566

History

April 1998

The Acid Deposition and Oxidant Research Center (ADORC) was established as a branch office of the Japan Environmental Sanitation Center (JESC)

June 2010

ADORC was renamed the Asia Center for Air Pollution Research (ACAP)

Establishment and Role of ACAP

At the First Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG1) in March 1998, with East Asian countries participating, it was decided to launch the preparatory phase activities of the Acid Deposition Monitoring Network in East Asia (EANET) in April 1998. After more than two years of preliminary operation, EANET began its activities on a regular basis in January 2001, based on a decision at the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG2) held in October 2000. The Acid Deposition and Oxidant Research Center (ADORC) was established in Niigata, Japan, as a branch office of the Japan Environmental Sanitation Center (JESC), to promote EANET activities, acting as the Network Center and play a pivotal role as Japan’s National Center in this network. ADORC was founded with the support of Niigata Prefecture, the City of Niigata, manufacturing companies, and non-profit organizations (NPOs), under the leadership of the Environment Agency (which has become Ministry of the Environment) of Japan.

ADORC was renamed the Asia Center for Air Pollution Research (ACAP) in June 2010. At the Seventeenth Session of the Intergovernmental Meeting (IG17) in 2015, the following tasks were included in Medium Term Plan (MTP) for the EANET (2016-2020): promoting the monitoring of PM2.5 and ozone (their impacts on global warming/climate change are gaining attention), exchanging information about clean air technologies and regional impact assessment, doing research and studies on emission inventory guidelines, etc., and promoting other related activities. In those fields, ACAP’s role has been growing.

Striving to improve air quality and solve air pollution problems, ACAP plays a key role in monitoring and researching acid deposition and air pollution in East Asia. In cooperation with international organizations, governments, local governments, and research institutions, ACAP conducts research, international conferences, trainings, etc. and also publicizes the data.

ACAP’s Partnerships

<img decoding="async" src="https://www.acap.asia/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/acap_partnerships.png" alt=" width=" 960="" height="720" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-965" />

","
    title  ":"
